Let’s Find the Right Solution.

John McDuff • Austin, Texas Business Law and Tax Lawyer

Complex legal matters require creative and strategic solutions. When there are hundreds of thousands — or millions — of dollars at stake, quality advice and veteran representation is indispensable. I am open to resolution at any time, but the opposition will face a tough litigator who negotiates from a position of strength, fully prepared to go to trial when other remedies are exhausted.

As a sole practitioner with more than 30 years of experience serving discriminating clients in Austin and Central Texas, attorney John McDuff offers businesses and individuals direct access to a storehouse of knowledge and experience in the areas of business law and tax law.

I have structured and closed transactions worth tens of millions, including triangular transactions, money center transactions and international transactions. I have served as an expert witness in estate law, corporate law, and tax law. In lawsuits I have secured results as high as five million dollars.

The quality of my work has been well recognized by my clients, and I have received the AV rating* under Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review system. Call 512.457.1177 to schedule an appointment.

I primarily serve mid-sized and small businesses in Travis County and Central Texas. My focused practice includes business litigation, controversial litigation, and business transactions, as well as tax litigation and collection. Call 512.457.1177 for an appointment.

Unparalleled Experience

Having worked as a CPA for Price Waterhouse before I went to law school at the University of Texas, I have a real-world understanding of my clients’ challenges, including the negative impact of disputes and the importance of resolving them favorably in a timely manner. For more than 30 years, I have directly represented businesses as a solo practicing attorney in Austin. See my attorney profile for additional background.

My long-term legal assistant, Lynne Rathman, enriches our clients’ experience at the law firm with her knowledge of the business world. She worked for high-tech companies for more than a decade, operated her own company and handled several large estates. Her Texas Tech education provides additional advantage to clients in effective application of technology for larger cases.

The Service Only Found at a Small Firm

As a solo attorney I don’t have the overhead of comparable representation at a major law firm. That means no junior associates juggling your case, no layers of lawyers to get answers to questions. You work directly with me, start to finish. I file the motions. I draft the contracts. I litigate the cases.

Business transactions change as they develop and disputes require positive action, not just responses to the other side. I am accessible and flexible. I recognize and take action on urgent matters decisively, without delay. At John McDuff, Attorney at Law, you are served by a team accustomed to long hours, doing what it takes to meet a litigation deadline or close a deal.
